I laughed so hard when I saw this sign! Piggly Wiggly ... reminded me of Picasso!
Of course, we just HAD to stop at the next Piggly Wiggly so that Picasso (the *original* Piggly Wiggly) could give his weather report. He's such a good roving reporter -- always ready to jump out and get to work, anytime + anywhere!
BUT... when we arrived in Charleston, South Carolina a few hours later...
Picasso jumped out of the car, and began to give his news report ... BUT, FORGOT TO FIX HIS EARS BEFORE THE CAMERAS STARTING ROLLING!!!! He was so so anxious to get to work, and after napping in the car, he forgot to wake up his right ear!
Okay, there he is ... all refreshed, ears up!!! Picasso is reporting from a beautiful, historic waterfront park on the harbor of Charleston, SC. We loved walking around, meeting lots of new fans of Picasso. He was a big hit!

The surrounding neighborhoods at the harbor were filled with colonial homes... very charming! Here's Picasso reporting from his favorite homes in the neighborhood. There's a very young and vibrant atmosphere in town. We definitely want to return to Charleston to explore more of the city.
We continued onto Savannah, Georgia... ANOTHER charming southern city! Loved the vibe in the historic district!! There's so much going on with people strolling the streets, lots of restaurants, so many little parks scattered in the neighborhoods and VERY dog-friendly! We saw people walking their dogs everywhere!
Here is Picasso giving his weather report this morning from a fountain in one of the many parks in Savannah, GA. Again, he was a hit with the locals! One little boy came up to hug Picasso! Thank goodness Picasso didn't lick him in the face :-)
We've decided that Savannah is another city that we will return to in the future. There's a lot more to see than we had time for, and now that we know it's such a dog-friendly city, we know it could be a good trip to take with the piggly.
As we drove to the coast of Florida (yes, we're finally in OUR state!), we stopped at a beach just south of St. Augustine. Picasso was sooooooo excited to get onto the beach...
...and here's the *original* Piggly Wiggly in action!
We all had such a good time running around on the secluded beach! Picasso especially enjoyed chasing the birds along the water's edge. Wow! The beaches here are just gorgeous!!
Today was our first sunny day since we left Reno -- welcome to the Sunshine State!
Picasso, our roving reporter, decided that he really likes working at the beach!
One more note before I sign off: I finally tried grits, twice! The first time, it was served as a side on a fish dinner. It was lumpy, yellowish and had the consistency of not-creamy-but-not-firm polenta. I really didn't mind the texture so much, but the flavor was quite bland. I had grits again today. It was a side dish again. This time it was an off-white color, like oatmeal. The consistency was the same as oatmeal, too -- soupier than yesterday's grits. Even though they called it "cheese grits", it had absolutely no flavor at all. It was blander than yesterday's grits.
My conclusions on GRITS:
1. It's a very bland starch that needs a whole lot of flavor added to it.
2. Similar to polenta, grits can be prepared different ways (firm, creamy, etc.)
3. It's really just FILLER. Save your appetite and stomach space for the good stuff!
